I will give you rest

John 15:7,

7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

2 Corinthians 1:20,

20 For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us.

James 4:3,

You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

James 1:2-8,

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,

knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.

For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord,

being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

It is very important to maintain our focus on Jesus, for we are subject to instability and double-mindedness if we don’t. And if we are unstable and/or double-minded, we cannot expect to receive anything we ask of the Lord. For no unstable or double-minded person can abide in  Jesus. And only those who abide in Jesus will have faith that their prayers will be answered.

Outside of Jesus are those who claim to have His authority and those who claim the promises of God. Their need to have authority or to claim things from God is due to their lack of faith. And they lack faith either because of their greed, their haughtiness, or their lack of desire to humble themselves before Jesus, and deny themselves and take up their cross and follow Him.

My friends, if we deny ourselves and take up our cross and follow Jesus, we will not find ourselves pretending to have His authority or having the audacity to claim a promise of God. To be near Jesus, one must be humble, and the closer one gets to Jesus, the more humble one will become.

I have been privileged to see Jesus several times, and I cannot even begin to describe His humility. If you get near Him, your heart will melt.

Matthew 11:28-30,

28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.

29 “Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and YOU SHALL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.

30 “For My yoke is easy, and My load is light.”
