Repent and Overcome

Sin is a stain on the image of God that man was created in. It is an unbreakable force that causes mankind to go against their own conscience and do what they know is wrong; thus preventing them from living lives of godliness and righteousness. Sin is the direct result of the first man’s disobeying God. It is, as Paul said, the principle that evil is present in us; sin dwells in each of us.

That is why Jesus told the church in Ephesus to repent, “Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you, and will remove your lampstand out of its place—unless you repent, Revelation 2:5”

Then in verse 7 Jesus said, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God.”

From these verses we know that those who say our future sins are forgiven are greatly mistaken, for Jesus said that those who don’t repent and overcome their sin, will not eat of the tree of life; that is, eternal life.
