Those Who Were Disobedient

John 3:36, “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Hebrews 5:8-9, Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation.

These verses of Scripture speak of Jesus learning obedience and obeying the Father, and the result of Him being made perfect. They also speak of the result of both our obedience and our disobedience. If we obey, we will receive eternal life. If we don’t obey, the wrath of God will abide on us.

Hebrews 12:8 says if we don’t obey, we are illegitimate children and not sons: ‘But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate childrenand not sons.’

Jesus said those who are lawless, that is those who don’t obey, will say, “Lord. Lord, did we not perform miracles in your name?” And He will say to them, “Depart from Me you workers of lawlessness. For I never knew you.” These are people who worked and did good in the name of Jesus, but Jesus didn’t know them. They never submitted to His authority; they just used His authority. They did not obey the Son of God; they just used His name.

Consider the Israelites in the wilderness. “And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did He swear that they should not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient?’ Hebrews 3:17-18.

If any think I am wrong and believe Christians have positional righteousness until they die, what about those who have been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and have fallen away, and it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they have crucified to themselves the Son of God, and put Him to open shame? Hebrews 6:4-6.

We should begin every day with, “Thy kingdom come and thy will be done.”

God is my witness.
