Stop Sinning

John 8:11,

11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And  Jesus said, “I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on do not sin any longer.”

1 Corinthians 15:34,

34 Become sober-minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.

Romans 6:12-14,

12 Therefore sin is not to reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,

13 and do not go on presenting the parts of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead, and your body’s parts as instruments of righteousness for God.

14 For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under the Law but under grace.

Ephesians 4:26-27,

26 Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

27 and do not give the devil an opportunity.

James 4:17,

17 So for one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, for him it is sin.

What do all of these Scriptures tell us? Do not sin; stop sinning; do not let sin reign in your body; do not present the parts of your body to sin; sin shall not be master over you; be angry, and yet do not sin; do not give the devil an opportunity; if you know what is right and don’t do it, it is sin.

Those who tell us we will continue to sin until we are released from our bodies of flesh are lying to us. They are what the word of God calls either impostors or liars. Do not listen to them. Listen to the Holy Spirit instead. He will never tell you it’s okay to sin, but will instead provide a way of escape from every temptation.

I must admit it is true that if we don’t learn obedience from the things which we suffer, we will continue in sin; that’s a given. But if we abide in our Lord we will not sin because His seed is in us.

It has always bothered me when I hear people say we are never delivered from sin while we are on earth. If this is so, then why did God give us the Holy Spirit? The Spirit is HOLY and if we walk by Him we will be holy. If we walk by the flesh we will be sinful. It’s as simple as that.

Jesus said, “Go and sin no more.” Paul said, “Stop sinning.” Peter said, “Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because the one who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human lusts, but for the will of God,” 1 Peter 4:1-2.

My friends, we must strive against sin, not ignore it. We must seek to find the way of escape God has provided for us. That is, if we want to be TRUE servants of God. Those who don’t care about TRUTH can go their merry way and cast out demons and perform miracles in Jesus’ name. The problem with this is they will one day hear Him say,

Matthew 7:23,

“I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.”

I end with a quote from the writer of Hebrews:

Hebrews 12:4-8,

4 You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin;

5 and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM.

6 FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES.

7 it is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?

8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.
