Declaring and decreeing something is just as sinful today as it was in Job’s time. Those who believe they can declare and decree things get their so-called authority to do so from Job:22:28. In that verse one of Job’s three friends, Eliphaz, tried to convince Job that he (Job) could decree something and it would be established.
However, at the end of Job’s ordeal, he spoke to the Lord, and said, “Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. Hear, now, and I will speak; I will ask Thee, and do Thou instruct me. I have heard of Thee by the hearing of the ear; but now my eye sees Thee; therefore I retract, and I repent in dust and ashes,” Job 42:3-6.
(Note the humility and clarity of mind exhibited by Job as he spoke to the Lord. We, too, must have humility and clarity of mind to walk safely down the path before us; otherwise, we might slip and find ourselves following a false doctrine. We must weigh everything we hear on the scales of the Word of God).
The Lord then said to Eliphaz, “My wrath is kindled against you and against your two friends because you have not spoken of Me what is right as My servant Job has. Now, therefore, take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, and go to My servant Job, and offer up a burnt offering for yourselves, and My servant Job will pray for you. For I will accept him so that I may not do with you according to your folly, because you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has” Job 42:7,8.
From these Scriptures in Job, we know that declaring and decreeing things are not right in the eyes of the Lord and are seen as folly by Him. Those who are led, not by the Spirit, but by their own desires and take it upon themselves to declare and decree this and that are an affront to the Lord. Be careful what you accept as truth.
