People often talk about blind faith and how ridiculous it is to believe something you can’t see or prove. But in reality, faith is not a wishing game; it is not a gamble; faith is a sure thing. It is the substance, or assurance, of things hoped for. It is the evidence, or conviction, of things unseen. How can evidence and assurance possibly be called blind?
So those who say faith is blind are out of touch with reality and are very much mistaken. They swear we’re the ones out of touch with reality, but they are far off the mark. When our son was going crippled with an incurable disease I was in the tool room of an apartment complex and I was suddenly struck with fear for my son and began to pray.
The Lord listened and then spoke, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life, and that word truth means reality.” I rushed to call a friend in another state who had a book that explained words in the Bible. He confirmed what the Lord had told me. I just saw it again in Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance a few days ago while working on another letter.
I should say here that I had told several friends from work the Lord was going to heal my son and all of them said I needed to face reality. They assumed that since he was already crippled to a certain extent, he would stay crippled to that extent. That is why the Lord told me the true meaning of the word ‘reality’.
The word of God says in John 1:4, 5,
4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
My friends were still in darkness; they didn’t comprehend the light. Their reality was of the earth from which they were formed. There is an earthly reality and there is a heavenly reality. Those who are of the earth have no knowledge of the heavenly reality.
Those who have been born anew walk in the heavenly reality, having been raised up together with Christ into the heavens where their life now is. My friends meant well; they just didn’t understand the reality I lived in.
Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the road we travel, the reality we live in, and the life we now breathe, and will continue to breathe throughout eternity.
John 1:9-13,
9 There was the true light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
11 He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,
13 who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
If you were born of the will of God, your reality lies within the kingdom of God, where as many as are the promises of God, in Jesus they are yes; therefore also through Him is your Amen to the glory of God through you, 2 Corinthians 1:20.
Darkness does have its reality but it is temporary, and those in Christ have died to this reality and now live in the reality of eternal light, that is, Jesus. In Jesus faith trumps what our eyes may see and what our hands may touch.
Faith is a gift from God that we are to cherish. It is so important that it is tried by fire and only the determined faithful who give up their lives to walk with Jesus will endure the trials of fire that burn away the dross, leaving faith in its purest form. Those who endure these trials will find that the promises of God are all yes in Jesus.
In conclusion: Faith appears to be blind only to those who have no faith.
