“Those who trust in the Lord are as Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people from this time forth and forever. For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest upon the land of the righteous; that the righteous may not put forth their hands to do wrong,” Psalm 125:1-3.
Is it hard for you to obey Jesus and keep His commandments? Trust in Him; yes, trust in Him. Know that Jesus is a perfect Savior, as Paul wrote, “But by His [God’s] own doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, that, as it is written, ‘Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.’” He has become all this to us, and the Spirit of God dwells within us. How can we not overcome? “For in Him all the fulness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority; and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ; having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead,” Colossians 2:9-12.
Consider our Savior today, “Therefore He was obligated to be made like His brethren in all things, that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted,” Hebrews 2:17, 18.
Not only has He become to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, He has become a High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety. Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation, Hebrews 5:6-9.
With these truths in mind, let us have faith in the word of God when it tells us that He will not let the scepter of wickedness rest upon us, in order that we may not put forth our hands to do wrong. Those who trust in the Lord are as Mount Zion, which cannot be moved. We are as Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, because we have a Savior who gave Himself up for us, and now sits beside the right hand of God, interceding and reaching out to help us in our times of need.
Dear friends, we cannot trust ourselves, for we were conceived in iniquity; nor can we make ourselves holy and overcome sin. Only God can accomplish these things for us, therefore we must trust in both the integrity of our Father, and the efficacy of the obedience and sacrifice of His Son. We must rely on Him to keep us as Mount Zion, which cannot be moved. And He will do this, His word says He will. We need only trust Him, and set our hearts and our minds to learn obedience as we press through the things which we suffer, as did our beloved Savior Jesus, who is now able to come to our aid when we are tempted.
